Every year, Outpost celebrates the 4th of July, and this year was bigger than ever before. Members from all of our eleven New York City houses came out to celebrate American Independence the old fashioned way--with an all-day BBQ party.
On a beautifully sunny Thursday afternoon, we headed to the South Williamsburg House to socialize and celebrate in style. We kicked off the festivities with games of cornhole and bocce ball, while Outpost volunteers helped prepare the BBQ. There was red, white and blue decorations, flags and some of our members even came dressed in costume for the occasion.
The food was incredible, with classic American favorites like hot dogs and burgers rolling out throughout the day, plus potato salad, chips and every other side you can think of. We even had an American flag cake for dessert and of course plenty of punch to get us through the hot day.
When the sun went down, we headed to the rooftop to watch the fireworks. What we didn’t expect was all the smaller fireworks displays, as people from Manhattan and Brooklyn spent the night setting off their own version of the official fireworks.
It was amazing to watch all of these displays happening at the same time and it really gave us a sense of the New York City community. The night ended with dancing, laughing and plenty of memory-making and we can’t wait to get planning for next year.
