Tips for coliving safely as the economy reopens

As New York City enters its second phase of reopening, residents are flocking outside after months of isolation under quarantine. While we're all excited to get a cocktail to-go from our favorite bar and see friends face-to-face, co-living brings a unique set of challenges when it comes to maintaining a sense of safety during a pandemic. Coronavirus cases are far lower than they were even a month ago, but proper precautions are necessary to protect both you and all your housemates.

Always wear your mask

One of the best ways to prevent infection is regularly wearing your mask. Most establishments require that customers wear one while inside and with parks bustling with activity it's always better safe than sorry. We recommend a re-usable cloth mask that you can wash frequently. In both New York and California wearing a face mask when in public is required by law — as we re-open keeping case numbers low is paramount. Face masks reduce the risk of you infecting or becoming infected by someone with COVID-19.

Wash your hands

You might be tired of hearing this, but this recommendation is an essential step to preventing the spread of coronavirus into your communal home. After being outside, wash your hands for at least 20 seconds, making sure to lather up on the backs of your hands and in-between your fingers.

Keep it clean

After washing your hands, wipe down any surfaces you've come into contact with while outside, including your phone, doorknobs, keys and water bottle. Contaminants can enter the house on you and your belongings, so regularly sanitizing your items will cut down any risk of exposure.

Get outside

The likelihood of transmission is much lower if you opt for outdoor activities. Instead of meeting up with friends at their home, maintain social distancing and meet up at a park. With the summer months upon us, it's a great time to catch some sun and enjoy the outdoors post-quarantine.
