Our 5 Favorite Brooklyn Coffee Shops

There’s not much that’s cozier than escaping the cold weather in a local café with a steaming mug of coffee to read a book or just people watch.

We never need an excuse to pop into one of Brooklyn’s many coffee shops, but now seems like the perfect opportunity to visit some of our favorites. Here are five that keep us coming back for more:

Variety Coffee Roasters

Variety is a New York City mini-chain that’s been around since 2008. We love the Bushwick location for its plentiful seating, thoughtful decor and -- of course -- great coffee. Variety is a great place to get some work done or just people watch, and it’s just a short L train ride from our East Bushwick and Bushwick houses. If you want to try the Williamsburg location, it’s a 10-minute walk from the East Williamsburg House.

Cafe Madeline

Cafe Madeline is a cozy, laptop-friendly spot that’s known for its expansive menu; you can’t really go wrong regardless of what you order. The Flatbush cafe also has a full espresso bar, so you can take the opportunity to order everything from a s’mores latte to a rose latte with real rose petals. The spot is a 15-minute walk from the Flatbush House.

Dot & Line

A 10-minute walk from the Downtown Brooklyn House lies Dot & Line, you’ll find one of the best hidden treasures in Boerum Hill: Dot & Line, a husband-and-wife-owned shop that feels delightfully Brooklyn when you step inside. The coffee is delicious without coming off as pretentious or trying too hard, just as Brooklyn coffee should be.

Brooklyn Roasting Company

Of Brooklyn Roasting Company’s seven locations, we’re in love with the DUMBO spot for it’s open spaces, comfy couches and artsy, industrial vibe -- and, of course, for the delicious coffee. This also happens to be the company’s roasting headquarters, so visit on a weekday to watch the magic happen.

Dweebs

Dweebs is a low-key, cheerful spot in Bushwick that makes us want to put our laptops away and enjoy the moment. On top of some truly killer cold brew, Dweebs features an eclectic variety of local art for purchase, as well as games like Scrabble and Stratego if you’re in the mood to stick around for a while. The shop is a 20-minute walk from our East Bushwick and Bushwick houses, or a 5-minute walk from the DeKalb L stop.
